Why It's Important to Make Your Bed

Like many people, you may not see the point in making your bed every morning. After all, you're just going to mess up the covers that night anyway. It's also possible that you don't budget the few extra minutes it would take into your morning routine. However, getting into the habit of making your bed can provide you with important psychological and physical health benefits.

Your Bed is the Focal Point of the Whole Room

As the largest piece of furniture in your bedroom, your bed commands the most attention. When it's unmade and messy, it can seem like the entire room is out of control. On the other hand, a neatly made bed can make the rest of the room seem neater than it really is. If you have some work to do getting your bedroom clean, having your bed already made can make it seem less overwhelming.

Your May Sleep Better When Your Bed is Made

According to a study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, those who make their bed daily reported better quality of sleep than those who do not. Your sleep can improve even more by washing your sheets regularly. It gives you a mental boost and helps you feel more relaxed knowing that you're sleeping in a neat and clean bed.

It's Not That Complicated

One reason people skip making their bed is they assume it's more complicated than it really is. All you need to do for your bed to look neat is pull and straighten the top bedding and put pillows into their proper position. Additionally, there's no truth to the rumor that leaving a bed unmade is the best way to discourage bedbugs. A better way is to vacuum your mattress regularly and wash your sheets in hot water.
