1. Crumbing Around
You might think you are multitasking when you eat lunch (or --shudder -- dinner) at your desk, but what you are really doing is making a mess. Even if you can’t see it.
Have you ever TRIED to clean out crumbs from a keyboard? It’s a task that will test anybody’s sanity. Aside from that, food crumbs can also mess up your mouse, so take a second and actually step away from work while you are trying to eat. Everything will be all the better for it.
2. Cleaning Kills
Good idea: Trying to help your TV and computer monitors by cleaning them. Good idea gone wrong: Not knowing what you are doing and actually causing more damage to them instead.
Most cleaners or chemical sprays damage electronics, so make sure not to use glass cleaner or other types of similar solutions on your electronics. Use whatever cleaning cloth came with the TV (or moniter, etc) instead.
3. Fire is Bad, Mmmkay
Sorry interior decorators! We still aren’t sure why people keep doing this, but we have to keep saying it. Don’t mount your TV over a fireplace. The heat can damage your brand new TV screen, and you don’t want that to happen!
4. Water Works
There are some things that just don’t work well together. And despite advances in waterproof technology, water and most electronics still fall in that category. Don’t spill water on your keyboard, don’t spill tea on your TV remote, and don’t take your laptop for a swim in the pool.
Actually, really, don’t do that last one. That’s just plain dangerous.
5. Anchors Away
You know that nice flat panel TV you just bought? Why would you hang it up on something as insecure and unstable as drywall? Even with those little anchors, you are just asking for your TV to pull off the wall and … CRASH. Then it’s time for another new TV… again.
Instead, let the pros do it! That’s what we’re here for.
6.The Tipping Point
Look, TVs aren’t as heavy as they used to be back in the day, but that doesn’t mean that they can magically float on top of your TV cabinet and never fall over.
Little kids -- and pets -- love to climb on things, and TVs are easy to tip over. Do everything you can to make sure your TVs aren’t going to fall over -- they come with mounts and brackets for a reason!
7. Sudden Surges
There are some things that nobody can prepare for. If your house magically gets transported into another dimension full of electrostatic interference, there’s not much we can do to help.
But there are steps you can take to keep everything as safe as possible. And one of those is making sure that ALL of your electronics that you don’t want to break are plugged into a surge protector. Don’t keep putting things directly into the wall. Please.
We know that you would never try to hurt your electronics on purpose, but even the best of intentions can backfire sometimes. That’s why we wanted to inform you with this list -- to make sure you were properly taking care of your expensive electronics.
But, of course, even the best electronics do fail sometimes. When you are in need of something new and shiny and not broken, give us a call! We’ll be glad to help you with all your electronics needs.
